Acupuncture for Shoulder Pain -

Acupuncture shoulder pain treatments include exercises that work to prevent future injury and illness. Two common physical activities that have been used for centuries to prevent injuries, promote well-being, and the flow of energy are Tai Chi and Qi Gong. When practiced properly, these help promote strength and flexibility and can strongly improve a person’s physical condition while strongly reducing their chances of having shoulder pain. In Acupuncture theory, pain is said to be caused by the stagnation of either Qi (energy or life force) or blood in the body.
In Oriental Medicine pain can result from one of three patterns.
Deficiency type pain
Qi and Blood stagnation
Cold Damp Obstruction
Pain resulting from deficiency is most common in middle aged and elderly patients. It is usually dull, chronic and improves with rest.
When pain is more severe and stabbing in nature, stagnation is implicated. Muscles are stiff and tight, and the pain can worsen with rest and inactivity. When this pain reoccurs chronically it indicates an underlying deficiency.
Pain which is worse in the morning and is exacerbated by cold and damp weather results from cold damp obstruction. It is alleviated by heat and may be accompanied by numbness, swelling and a sense of heaviness.
When your Acupuncture Physician treats pain, both local (at the site of the pain) and distal (away from the area of pain) points can be used to resolve the problem. Your practitioner may palpate the body to find the most sensitive spots to place an acupuncture needle in. In addition to acupuncture, other techniques of Oriental Medicine may be utilized to treat pain such as electric stimulation of points, cupping, gwa sha, and moxabustion.
Acute pain can often be addressed in a couple of treatments. More treatments may be needed if the pain is chronic or stems from an underlying deficiency. Initially, frequent treatments are advised, with tapering off of treatments as the pain diminishes. Chinese herbs may be recommended as part of the treatment plan for addressing pain.
Acupuncture for shoulder pain is used to relieve the pain and discomfort associated with shoulder pain. Acupuncture helps us achieve balance and control, comfort and focus, and joy in living. We have a lot of potential in our bodies but at times it can be misguided. The needles are very slender. They are about the thickness of two human hairs. Treatments are always carried out with sterile and disposable needles. They are used once and then discarded. All needles are approved by the FDA. Most insertions are just beneath the skin`s surface which enables the skilled acupuncture practitioner to place a needle with little or no sensation. We have great success in helping clients apply acupuncture to help with their shoulder pain.
